The relationship between antique store owner Theo (Peter McEnery) and his paramour Vivien (Glenda Jackson) was sustained by a bizarre sex life where he role-played the 1910s wife-killer Dr. Crippen and she, the victim-spouse. The arrangement would get odder yet when he took on German photographer Reingard (Diane Cilento) as an upstairs tenant-and she’d bring her own kinks to the resulting triangle.
